Updated: Jun 17

A merciless wilderness. A harrowing attack. A desperate escape.

When a tragic accident sidelines Miley's dreams of Olympic gold, she takes a summer job at a mountain guest lodge. The Frank Church Wilderness is remote, but it’s the perfect place to train and recover. Local lore about a staffer who died years ago doesn’t scare her.

But it should.

Miley’s plans take a terrifying detour when she’s abducted during a morning run. Held captive in a desolate off-grid cabin, she’ll have to use her athletic prowess, cunning mind, and courage to survive. But as the nightmare at the cabin escalates, Miley is forced to form an unlikely alliance and attempt a risky escape.

Can she outwit her captors and survive the wilderness before it’s too late?

Inspired by true events, Gray After Dark is a pulse-pounding psychological thriller with a finale that will leave you breathless.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author and certainly won’t be the last. It’s unique, as all her books are in both setting and characterization. I felt I was in very capable and well researched hands from the minute Miley is abducted.

First you get this amazing cover and then the easy, smooth writing style that transports you through this frightening story. I hated having to put it down between work and life.

There’s nothing I didn’t like about it. Every paragraph, every word expertly chosen down to each minute detail. The two men, the wife, and the oppressive, submissive lifestyle left me feeling raw. A Handmaids Tale in the woods, transporting you to a warp in time and the harshness of survival.

You can’t help rooting for Miley and understanding her plight which is cleverly played out. There were twists and challenges galore. A minefield of choices to navigate all of which came with cruel and painful consequences.

I wanted to punch through the book and yell at those men - so attuned to the wilderness, their home and the surrounding wilderness makes it impossible for Miley to plan an escape. That and the shackles she is forced to wear. The punishments are so deadly, I wondered if she would simply resort to the lifestyle and become brainwashed and incapacitated like her beaten down companion.

I could only hope that her friend whom she’d held at arm's length wouldn’t fail her now. Would he be able to find her? So much is at stake in this wilderness tale aside from the terror she must go through.

Definitely a fabulous bestselling author to watch and a book to recommend. Absolutely brilliant!
